WIM committee supports young learners

Our conneXXion Women in Mining (WIM) committee turned a school shoe donation into collective generosity.

Sometimes the smallest acts of generosity create the greatest impact. Our conneXXion Women in Mining (WIM) initiated a school shoe drive, aiming to collect 100 pairs of school shoes for learners in need. The generous response from employees exceeded every expectation.

A total of 226 pairs were donated to learners at Kgabo, Sefako Makgatho, and Matseke Primary Schools in the Tshwane Municipality to take confident steps towards their future.

The initiative brought Impact Beyond the Surface to life through collective action. Collectively, employees contributed shoes, polish and brushes and volunteered to sort, pack and deliver the donations, helping WiM extend the reach of the initiative.

The donated items were distributed to learners identified by their schools as being most in need. The strong response has also made a second phase possible, allowing the initiative to reach more learners.

Why this matters: When people come together around a shared purpose, even the simplest act of kindness can create lasting impact. By investing in learners’ confidence, dignity and education, we are helping build stronger futures, one step at a time.

Every pair you give us carries a story and now it carries someone forward.”

Ivy Aphane, Principal: Matseke Primary School
