Spreading Madiba magic
Our people and partners came together to create impact beyond the surface during Mandela Month.
Mandela Day reminds us that making a difference doesn’t always begin with something big. Sometimes it starts with 67 minutes, willing hands and the decision to care. Across Exxaro, our people and partners honoured Nelson Mandela’s legacy by responding to different community needs with one shared purpose: to leave our communities stronger than we found them.
At the conneXXion, employees and the executive team packed 1 328 personal hygiene packs for learners at selected schools across Tshwane, including reusable sanitary towels to help girls attend school with confidence.
At Matla, teams refurbished libraries and sports fields at five local primary schools. At Sibongamandla Secondary School, more than 1 000 scientific calculators and 25 laptops were donated to strengthen learning in mathematics, science and technology.
At Leeuwpan, employees and partners planted for the future, establishing sustainable vegetable gardens at Mafa Max Motloung Secondary School and Siyanqoba Disability Centre. The centre also received practical resources to support its beneficiaries and daily operations.
At Belfast, Mandela Month brought hope to 78-year-old Gogo Mabhena and her family. In partnership with the Emakhazeni Local Municipality, Belfast Coal committed to building them a new five-bedroom home, with a sod-turning ceremony officially launching the project.

Why this matters: Mandela Day reminds us that small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact. When we work alongside our communities, we create change that reaches far beyond a single day.
