One Exxaro Spirit at the Comrades Marathon

Congratulations to all our employees who took on the test of endurance at the 99th Comrades Marathon.

Some finish lines are about more than just crossing the line. They’re about months of commitment, countless early mornings and the determination to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

This year, 29 Exxaro Running Club members from Matla, Grootegeluk and the conneXXion proudly represented One Exxaro as they took on the 85.7 km Comrades Marathon Up Run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.

Every runner had their own story. For some, it was the thrill of completing their very first Comrades. For others, it was another chapter in a long-distance running journey built on showing up every day. A special congratulations goes to Absalom Moumakwe, Senior Functional Specialist in Information Management, who completed his 10th Comrades Marathon, earning the prestigious Green Number: a permanent race number awarded to runners who have completed ten Comrades Marathons.

The event also showcased the power of teamwork, with Exxaro colleagues encouraging one another through every uphill battle. Congratulations to all our runners, who represented Exxaro with pride. Your commitment and determination embody the spirit of Comrades and serve as an inspiration to us all.

As the celebrations continue, attention now turns to the fourth Exxaro Road Race on 19 September 2026, creating a new opportunity for even more employees to set a personal goal, get active and experience the same spirit of camaraderie. Speak to your wellness coordinator to find out how you can register, today!

Why this matters: The Comrades Marathon reminds us that success is built one step at a time. Whether you’re running an ultramarathon, tackling a work project or pursuing a personal goal, commitment, consistency and supporting one another make extraordinary achievements possible.

Your commitment, discipline and perseverance embody the spirit of Comrades and serve as an inspiration to us all.”
