The countdown to 20: The story behind our anniversary logo

For 20 years, Exxaro has unlocked the value of resources beneath the surface to create an impact that reaches far beyond our operations.

That impact can be seen in the energy we have helped provide to South Africa, the livelihoods we have supported, the opportunities created for our people and host communities, the businesses we have enabled and the contribution we continue to make to the economy. As Exxaro has evolved, so too has the scale and reach of our impact.

On 27 November 2026, we will mark 20 years since Exxaro listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE). As we count down to this milestone, we are celebrating our story under a theme that captures what these two decades represent: 20 Years of Impact Beyond the Surface.

You will already have seen our anniversary logo appearing across our communications. But have you looked closely at the story behind it?

Wow, 20 years indeed. It looks like it was yesterday. Thanks God I was there when it started and I’m still here. Congratulations Exxaro. We pray to God grant this giant company another 20 years and more.

Thank you Exxaro!”

Johanes Khoza, Process Coordinator, Leeuwpan Mine

Our XX: our identity, our people, our 20 years

At the heart of the anniversary logo is one of the most recognisable elements of our Exxaro identity: our XX people.

Derived from our Exxaro mother logo, the two Xs take the form of human figures, representing the people at the heart of our business and the impact we create.

For our 20th anniversary, the XX carries another fitting meaning. In Roman numerals, XX means 20.

Our anniversary logo therefore brings together three important elements in one symbol: Exxaro, our people and 20 years.

Impact Beyond the Surface

The words Impact Beyond the Surface complete the story.

They capture the value created through our business and the difference that value enables beyond our operations. It is reflected in the livelihoods we support, opportunities we create, communities we invest in, our contribution to South Africa and our continued work to build a sustainable and diversified business.

For us as employees, the message is particularly meaningful. Our people have made this impact possible. Every role, every team and every contribution has played a part in shaping the Exxaro we know today.

Counting down to 27 November

As we move closer to 27 November, we will continue sharing the people, milestones and stories that have shaped Exxaro over the past two decades.

Watch this space as we count down to 27 November and celebrate our people, our stories and our impact. There is plenty more to come!
