#MineYourWords promotes responsible digital culture
Exxaro employees were encouraged to think carefully about how they show up online.
In today’s digital world, every post, comment, like or share has the power to shape how people see us both as individuals and as representatives of Exxaro. To help strengthen responsible online behaviour, employees participated in social media awareness sessions as part of Exxaro’s internal #MineYourWords campaign.
The campaign encouraged employees to pause before posting and think carefully about whether their words are constructive, respectful and aligned with our values. The message was simple: just as mining requires care and responsibility, so too does digital engagement.
To bring Exxaro’s Social Media Policy to life in a practical and engaging way, the sessions included an industrial theatre production using storytelling, humour and workplace scenarios to explore responsible online behaviour. The performances highlighted the importance of protecting confidential information, respecting colleagues and understanding how online actions can impact both individuals and the organisation.

Employees also heard from legal expert Lerato Ntwampe, founder of Legal Plug Consulting, who shared some practical insights into social media law, reputational risk, digital rights and online accountability. Through case studies and interactive discussions, employees were encouraged to think more critically about the long-term impact of what they post online.
The campaign reinforced that Exxaro is not discouraging social media use, but rather encouraging employees to engage responsibly as digital citizens and brand ambassadors.
The conversation does not end here. Continue being intentional about how you engage online by taking the #MineYourWords pledge and quiz for a chance to win, while refreshing your understanding of responsible social media conduct. Enter before 12 June: https://letsconnect.datafree.co/myw

Why this matters: Responsible online behaviour helps protect employees, colleagues and the Exxaro brand while creating safer, more respectful digital spaces for everyone.
We are not discouraging social media use, but rather encouraging everyone to engage responsibly as digital citizens and brand ambassadors. #MineYourWords.
