Our People, Our Stories

At Exxaro, our people are the source of our strength and innovation. This segment celebrates employees who are growing, leading, and living our values every day.

Here are two inspiring stories that show how Exxaro empowers its people to thrive and make a difference.

Meet Scelo Ndima

For Scelo Buhle Ndima, joining the Firefighting Team was just the beginning of a bigger purpose. She discovered that safety is not only about policies and procedures but a shared responsibility. Through initiatives such as the Safety Indaba, eco-friendly school projects, and the MSME Programme, Scelo saw how Exxaro empowers communities, cares for its people, and protects the environment. Inspired by this, she enrolled at UNISA to study Health and Safety Management, aiming to contribute to a safer and greener future.

“Being part of Exxaro has taught me that collaboration, safety, and sustainability go hand in hand. Together, we’re not just working, we are building a future that empowers people and protects the planet.”

Meet Nondumiso Makhubela

For Nondumiso Makhubela, working on the North-West Access (NWA) Belt Project at Matla Mine 2 has been a journey of personal and professional growth. Starting as a semi-skilled electrician, she gained technical experience, leadership exposure, and confidence. As a SHE Representative, she learned to prioritise safety and speak up for her team, showing how Exxaro’s commitment to people development creates lasting impact.



“Exxaro doesn’t just build projects; it builds people. The exposure I’ve had through this project has expanded my professional world and given me the confidence to take ownership of critical work underground.”

These stories bring Exxaro’s purpose of Powering Better Lives to life by developing our people, fostering collaboration, and building a safer, more sustainable future for all.
