Our Grootegeluk Mine recently hosted final-year students from the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) and fourth-year students from the University of Johannesburg (UJ). The visit gave the students practical exposure to real-world mining operations and highlighted the emerging mining engineering talent in South Africa.<\/p>\n

Building on their theoretical knowledge, the students gained a clear understanding of how mine planning, geology, survey, beneficiation, and sustainability principles are applied on site. The engagement also allowed them to ask advanced, critical questions, showing their readiness to become the next generation of mining engineers and specialists.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

\u201cHaving completed their theoretical modules, this tour will help them with their design project, which will be their only focus next semester,\u201d<\/strong> <\/em>said Paskalia Neingo, Lecturer and Undergraduate Coordinator<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

The visit also coincided with International Day of Women in Mining, offering the students an opportunity to see the impact of women in the field. Led by Superintendent of Mining, Dolly Skhosana, a team of women from various mining disciplines at Grootegeluk guided the students through the mine and shared their experiences.<\/p>\n
