Thriving communities are built when everyone has the chance to be seen, supported and included.
This year, Exxaro strengthened its commitment to ensuring that vulnerable groups, from children with critical illnesses to communities battling TB, exclusion, or inequality, receive the care and support they deserve. Through partnerships, awareness campaigns and acts of service, our people showed what it means to live the values of compassion, dignity and shared humanity. Together, we worked to ensure that no-one is left behind.
Honouring young warriors on World Cancer Day
Exxaro partnered with the Reach For A Dream Foundation to bring hope to young cancer patients at the Zakithi Nkosi Clinical Haematology Centre of Excellence at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. Through puppet shows, creative activities and thoughtful goodie bags, we honoured the courage of children facing life-threatening illnesses and reinforced our commitment to a future where no-one faces cancer alone.
Standing together to end TB
Thubelihle Clinic, in partnership with the Department of Health and supported by Exxaro Matla Coal Clinic, hosted a TB awareness and screening event in Kriel to mark World Tuberculosis (TB) Day and spread the message: Yes! We can end TB. Residents of all ages received free screenings, education and support, helping drive early detection and improved access to treatment.
Championing inclusion through Albinism awareness
Matla Mine hosted an event themed Different looks, Equal worth to promote understanding, celebrate diversity, and raise awareness about the challenges faced by people living with albinism. Through our partnership with Vision for Change, 35 individuals also received eye tests and will benefit from follow-up care.
Mandela Month: It’s still in our hands
Our business units rolled up their sleeves to honour Madiba’s legacy through acts of service that uplifted some of our most vulnerable communities:

- Belfast Mine: Revitalised the Dullstroom Epilepsy Centre through painting, gardening and essential donations.
- Matla Mine: Created vegetable gardens at local schools to strengthen food security.
- Grootegeluk Mine: Upgraded facilities at Ikitseng Primary School with painting, tiling and gardening support.
