In 2025 our safety journey really flourished. It was a year where leaders showed up, teams took ownership, communities partnered with us and every business unit and employee committed to living as One Voice. One Exxaro. Safety Always, All the Way. We really demonstrated what’s possible when we all stand together with a deep to Zero Harm.

Here’s how safety thrived across our operations.

One Voice. One Exxaro.

The year started with a landmark moment: the CEO Safety Summit, where more than 2 000 employees and stakeholders came together to officially launch the refreshed One Voice Safety Strategy. Hosted by Leeuwpan, a mine with a legendary 35-year fatality-free legacy, the Summit set the tone for a year anchored in collective responsibility

Our Chief Safety Officer and CEO, Ben Magara, captured the heart of our safety belief: “If it’s not safe, do not ever do it – not in my name, not in yours too.”

The summit wasn’t just speeches and commitments. It was lived action. For five consecutive weeks, every Business Unit unpacked and applied the strategy – one pillar, one conversation, one commitment at a time, helping every employee move from knowing safety to living safety.

Safety beyond the mining gates: supporting thriving communities

The CEO Safety Summit began with something unexpected yet deeply meaningful: a Market Day featuring SMEs from our host communities. The message was powerful and clear: When safety thrives, communities thrive. Empowerment, upliftment and shared prosperity are inseparable from safe, sustainable operations.

Honouring a culture of Zero Harm

In 2025, we proudly marked three years fatality-free as a Group, with all our operations achieving extraordinary, long-term safety records. We applaud you.

15 years fatality-free

13 years fatality-free

8 years fatality-free

These are the results of consistent safe decisions, courageous interventions, and an unrelenting belief that every injury is preventable.

Leadership that shows up, and steps in

In October, our entire organisation paused for Leadership Safety Day, rallying behind the message:
#NotInMyName: Khetha Ukuphepha.  It was a moment of collective accountability, where leaders reinforced that safety is not paperwork or protocols, it’s presence.

Celebrating safety excellence in the industry

This momentum carried through to the 2025 Coal Safe Awards, where Exxaro was recognised for excellence in operational safety and our commitment to shaping a safer tomorrow.

The theme: Sustainably Delivering Today, Shaping Tomorrow echoed our own belief – that safety is not merely compliance; it’s the bedrock of our success and sustainability.

Cyber safety: thriving in the digital era

As our operations grow smarter and more connected, digital safety has become just as important as physical safety. In 2025, we strengthened our cyber resilience through:

    • Eight cybersecurity themes delivered across the year
    • Two national roadshows (June: 898 employees reached October: 1 082 employees reached)
    • A workforce increasingly equipped to be Exxaro’s first line of digital defence

    We are not only safe on the ground, we are safer than ever in cyberspace!
