Safety in the critical season

It starts with us

In October, operations across all our Business Units paused as we came together for our annual Leadership Safety Day, a powerful moment to reflect, take accountability, and lead with intention.

This year’s theme, #NotInMyName: Khetha Ukuphepha, reminded us that safety begins with each one of us. Khetha Ukuphepha, which means Choose Safety, is a call to action that places responsibility in our hands. It urges every employee to stand firm against unsafe behaviour, to act when something is wrong, and to protect one another. The message is simple but powerful:

  • Every life counts: Take safety home
  • Every person counts: Leave no one behind
  • Every decision counts: Khetha Ukuphepha
  • Every action counts: Stop and fix

In his address, CEO Ben Magara reminded us that safety is not a checklist but a reflection of who we are and how we lead. He spoke about safety as a lived value that demands care, presence, and accountability in every decision we make. Ben reaffirmed that Zero Harm is possible when we choose safety together, consistently and consciously.

Celebrating our safety milestones

We also recognised the commendable safety achievements across our operations, recognising the teamwork and discipline that make these milestones possible.
