Exxaro at the 2025 Joburg Indaba
Leading the conversation on the future of mining
We proudly participated in the 2025 Joburg Indaba held in October, one of South Africa’s most influential mining engagements. The focus this year was on the future of mining, and Exxaro played a key role in shaping that conversation.
Our CEO, Ben Magara, shared Exxaro’s strategic direction including how we are building a resilient, future-fit business in a fireside chat with moderator Bernard Swanepoel. He spoke about how we are growing and diversifying our portfolio while staying true to our purpose of powering better lives.
“We are doubling our renewable energy business. We still have coal, and we are growing our transition-metals portfolio because manganese is key to battery technology,” Ben said.
His message reinforced Exxaro’s direction to strengthen our coal business, which continues to support South Africa’s energy needs, expand our renewable energy footprint by doubling capacity from 229 to 450 megawatts by 2027, and invest in transition minerals such as manganese to meet global demand for clean-energy and battery technologies.
Our Finance Director, Riaan Koppeschaar, also participated in a panel discussion about the factors that influence investor confidence and mining companies’ capital allocation.
