Celebrating Excellence
at the Evergreen Awards
In August , we hosted the Evergreen Awards, our flagship recognition event celebrating the exceptional achievements of 2024. The awards honoured excellence, innovation, and commitment, the qualities that continue to keep our business strong and resilient.
At Exxaro, it is all about people, and the Evergreen Awards are designed to recognise the high standards we set in safety, innovation, and continuous improvement, and to encourage these standards across our value chain.
This year’s theme, ‘Built on a Firm Foundation: Exxaro’s Next Growth Phase,’ reflected our past, present, and future. It was inspired by the progress we are making in executing our Sustainable Growth and Impact (SG&I) Strategy.
The ceremony opened with a powerful poem by programme director Lebo Mashile, who traced our journey from coal origins to our growing role in critical minerals and renewable energy. She reminded us that Exxaro is not defined only by what we mine, but by the imagination, resilience, and excellence of our people.

Awards were presented for achievements in safety, bravery, innovation, and community impact, highlighting the breadth of talent and dedication across the business.
Our CEO Ben Magara shared a powerful message as the event coincided with the start of Women’s Month:
“Gents, we have a collective responsibility and a very long way to go to make South Africa a safer space for all women. Specifically, as the men of Exxaro, we also have a duty to ensure more gender representation across the organisation.”
Guest performer Ami Faku added to the celebration with her soulful performance and infectious energy, inspiring the audience and filling the room with excitement.
Closing the event, our Executive Head: People & Performance, Joseph Rock, reinforced the importance of everyday recognition:
“Recognition is not only about awards. It is also about the daily choices, the quiet moments of commitment, and the unseen effort that make Exxaro strong. Award or not, we appreciate you. Your work matters, your impact is felt, and your contribution is valued.”
