Library donation sparks learning momentum at Olievenhoutbosch Secondary School
Youth Month Feature
In line with our ongoing commitment to community development and educational upliftment, we partnered with Olieven Secondary School in Olievenhoutbosch, Pretoria. This initiative supports our goal of nurturing learning environments that promote literacy and empower learners in under-resourced communities to achieve long-term academic success.
Recognising the critical need for access to educational resources, the construction of a school library, along with the provision of reading materials, is expected to enhance the academic experience of both learners and educators, encouraging a culture of reading and lifelong learning.
A total investment of R 400 100 was made towards the construction of a fully equipped library at Olieven Secondary School. The funds assisted with infrastructure, shelving, furniture and various other key facilities to create a functional and conducive learning space.
Another R20 000 was invested in books to help stock the new library with books requested by teachers.
This initiative directly supports students from informal settlements, where private study space at home is often unavailable. The library is set to become a vital resource, empowering learners to succeed in their academic journey.
Impact
The establishment of the library is anticipated to significantly benefit the school’s academic programs by:
- Improving access to reading materials for over 2000 learners.
- Supporting teachers with additional resources for lesson planning and instruction.
- Creating a quiet, dedicated space for study, research, and knowledge exploration.
- Encouraging reading as a leisure activity, thereby fostering a love for learning.
