‘Mines in closure’ KZN showcases career opportunities at the DMPR
Deputy Minister's career EXPO
Youth Month Feature
On 3 May 2025, our Durnacol and Hlobane Mines in Closure (KZN) participated in the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) Deputy Minister’s Career Expo, held at Siyanda High School in Pietermaritzburg. During the event, the team hosted an exhibition and delivered an engaging presentation that highlighted career development opportunities available within Exxaro.
The expo aligned with the DMPR’s strategic goal to enhance public awareness of the department’s commitment to addressing the shortage of technical skills in the mining and energy sectors. A key focus was to encourage students to pursue education and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
Stakeholders from various sectors took part in the expo. The event successfully raised awareness of relevant career paths, tertiary education requirements, and opportunities such as bursaries, funding, and internships. These valuable interactions helped strengthen the connection between schools, colleges, communities, and businesses, fostering a collaborative approach to skills development and career advancement in the region.
