Matla Mine and Emalahleni Municipality

empower learners with school shoe drive

Youth Month Feature

Matla Mine collaborated with the Emalahleni Local Municipality to bring hundreds of young learners dignity, pride, and comfort. This was achieved through a back-to-school shoe donation campaign spanning three schools: Sibongindawo Primary School in Wilge, Sibongamandla Secondary School in Thubelihle, and Sibukosethu Primary School in Witbank.

The initiative reflects Matla’s continuous commitment to collaboration and its support for every child’s fundamental human right to quality education.

Various speakers and delegates from the Emalahleni Local Municipality, Exxaro, and the beneficiary schools encouraged the learners.

“This gesture goes beyond material support; it touches the lives of our learners in ways that will stay with them for years to come. We are deeply grateful for the care and commitment shown by Exxaro and the Emalahleni Municipality,” said Mrs Vilakazi, principal of Sibongindawo Primary.

Sibukosethu Principal Mrs SV Nkosi expressed deep appreciation: “Every child has a right to education, and no learner should miss school because they don’t have proper shoes. This initiative will undoubtedly touch many lives.”

As hundreds of learners across Emalahleni lace up their new shoes and walk into their classrooms with fresh confidence, the impact of this joint effort is undeniable: when businesses and government work together, they don’t just provide for today – they inspire hope for tomorrow.
