Belfast Mine and FAMSA

bring hygiene essentials to local schools

As part of our commitment to social impact and community wellbeing, our Belfast Mine in collaboration with Family South Africa (FAMSA), extended a helping hand to 100 socio-economically disadvantaged learners in Emakhazeni Local Municipality schools in Belfast, Siyathuthuka and Dullstroom.

Through a Sanitary Products Drive, the initiative aimed to restore dignity and promote healthy living and ensure that disadvantaged learners have access to basic hygiene essentials. Each learner received a care pack containing essential items such as soap, sanitary products, toothpaste, and other personal hygiene necessities, helping them start each day feeling confident and able to bring their best selves.

Representatives from our Social Impact team, Women in Mining (WIM) as well as Ibandla Men’s Forum, joined hands with FAMSA during the handover, reinforcing that maintaining proper hygiene is not only essential for personal health but also for building self-confidence and improving school attendance. By addressing this critical need, the initiative enables learners to focus on their education without the burden of socio-economic barriers.

The school community expressed heartfelt appreciation for the thoughtful gesture, noting the positive difference it continues to make in the learners’ daily lives, a testament to Exxaro’s belief that small acts of care create lasting change.
