Mandela month
It’s still in our hands
In July, Exxaro employees across our business units came together to honour Madiba’s legacy under the theme “It’s still in our hands to combat poverty and inequality.” Through acts of service, compassion, and impact, we demonstrated that when we are united in purpose, we can power real change in our communities.
Here is how each of our business units put Mandela’s legacy into action:
Leeuwpan Mine
- Donated 50 blankets to Botleng Old Age Home in partnership with Victor Khanye Local Municipality, providing warmth and dignity to elderly residents during winter.
- Partnered with Lubocon to support four Early Childhood Development centres in the Botleng community, donating infrastructure, educational toys, and food supplies.
Belfast Mine
- Visited the Dullstroom Epilepsy Centre, where employees joined forces to paint the facility, work in the gardens, and donate food parcels, blankets, and Jojo tanks.
Matla Mine
- Converted underutilised land at Sifundise Primary and Sbongamandla Secondary Schools into vegetable gardens to promote food security and nutrition.
- Partnered with local NPO Mikono ya Taifa, the Department of Agriculture, and the Emalahleni Local Municipality to strengthen community involvement and sustainability.
Grootegeluk Mine
- Supported Ikitseng Primary School through fence painting, tiling, gardening, and planting trees.
- Donated tiles, paints, gardening tools, dustbins, and plants, with materials procured from local business AME.
The conneXXion
